About the Southwest Figure Skating Club

Founded in 1996, the Southwest Figure Skating Club was established by a group of dedicated parents who wanted to foster a love for figure skating in Southwest Minnesota. Their vision created a supportive and welcoming community where skaters of all ages and skill levels could develop their skills and passion for the sport. The club’s first director, Andrea Sattler, played a key role in shaping its early programs and laying the foundation for its long-term success.

Over the years, the Southwest Figure Skating Club has grown to include more than 200 members, helping countless skaters progress in their skills, achieve competitive success, and build lifelong connections through figure skating. The club follows the U.S. Figure Skating (USFSA) curriculum, allowing members to train, test, and compete in sanctioned events. One of its signature traditions is the annual ice show, a cherished event held each March that showcases the talents of skaters at all levels.

Since 2005, the club has been led by Jodi Schreurs, whose leadership has played a pivotal role in its continued growth. Under her guidance, the club has expanded its programs, strengthened its coaching team, and fostered a strong sense of community among skaters and their families. Over the years, multiple alumni have returned as coaches, sharing their passion and experience with the next generation. Additionally, several former skaters now have their own children enrolled in the club, continuing the legacy and deepening the connections within the skating family as second-generation skaters.

In 2022, the Southwest Figure Skating Club proudly celebrated its 25th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its history. The club’s legacy is built not only on the skaters it has trained but also on the lifelong relationships formed within its community. Whether introducing young skaters to the ice, supporting competitive athletes, or welcoming back alumni as coaches and parents, the club remains committed to its mission of growth, excellence, and camaraderie in the sport of figure skating.
